SHELBYVILLE

E. Ann Tallant,86, passed in peace to be with her Father in Heaven on the morning of Saturday, January 2, 2021, in Shelbyville, Indiana. Ann, a proud resident and lifelong member of the community of North Vernon, Indiana, was born July 23rd, 1934.

Funeral Mass is private for family and extended family. All others are invited to watch the live stream on the Jennings County Catholic Facebook page at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

Ann was a graduate of North Vernon High School Class of 1952. She went on to attend Indiana Business College which helped her earn a position at Muscatatuck State Hospital as the Superintendent executive secretary. She later retired from Cummins in 2002, surrounded by countless loved ones, proud children, inspired grandchildren, and appreciative coworkers at a grand celebration.

Most notably, Ann was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon. Prayer and faith brought her through many significant hardships in her life. Her belief and trust in God made her a fearless woman who touched many through her work and dedication to her church, as well as her participation in Democratic Women’s, Daughters of Isabella, Legion of Mary, Red Hat Society, and card and game clubs for many years. She was granted the “Lay Person of the Year” award at the 105th Indiana Knights of Columbus Annual State Banquet Meeting held on April 29th, 2006 at the Adams Mark Hotel in Indianapolis. She also served her church for many years and was named the St. Mary’s Volunteer of the Year for her service to school, parish, and community in 2009.

Ann was the epitome of “living life to the fullest.” Her recipes will be passed down for generations, as her love of food and cooking has spread to her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated fan of both Purdue and IU sports, as she proudly supported children and grandchildren who became alumni of both institutions. She was a card shark at her assisted living facility, playing euchre, among other games, with residents. Ann will be remembered for her boisterous renditions of church hymns, focusing on prayer while she should be focusing on driving, trying not to pick a favorite of her six amazing children, and creating far too much of a mess in the kitchen. Her love for life lives on in her family and she will be greatly missed. She has spent so much of her life in prayer, that her loved ones are confident she is now where she truly belongs.

Ann is survived by her sister, Dorine (Terry) May; brother, Charles “Jug” Miller; brother Paul J Miller; sister-in-law, Joan Miller; sister-in-law, Louise Reichert; children, J.C. (Lee) Tallant, Bryce (Marti) Tallant, Mary (Bob) Cross, Elise (Geoff) Wade, Jenny Brown, William Tallant; twelve grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
