Dolores D. Saylor

NEW CARLISLE, IN

Dolores D. Saylor, 92, a resident at Hamilton Grove Retirement Community in New Carlisle, died at the facility on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021.

Born Jan. 8, 1929 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Alberto and Mildred (Wheeler) Diaz. On Oct. 12, 1946, she married John R. Saylor in New Carlisle. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1992.

She graduated from New Carlisle High School and Indiana Business College and worked as an administrative assistant with national security clearance at Bendix when the company was designing weapon systems for the military. She later worked as an administrative assistant for the St. Joseph County Parks system, beginning with Bendix Woods County Park in 1971 and later at St. Patrick’s County Park in South Bend.

She was a life-long member of New Carlisle United Methodist Church, serving on various supervisory boards and volunteer roles throughout the years. She was active in supporting literacy through her work with the New Carlisle Public Library and was an avid reader herself, using audio books after she lost her vision a decade ago.

She was a member of Delta Theta Tau and formerly of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to bake and spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons, John T. (Deborah) Saylor, and James M. (Wendy) Saylor, of New Carlisle, and Douglas K. (Carla) Saylor, Austin, Texas: a daughter, Julie McClure, Columbus, Ind., nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A private family service is being planned due to pandemic restrictions with burial in Door Village Cemetery.

Kaniewski Funeral Home, New Carlisle, is handling arrangements. Those wishing to express condolences may leave messages on the funeral home website. The family hopes to hold a public memorial service in Dolores’ memory later in 2021 when pandemic restrictions are lifted.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Carlisle Public Library, New Carlisle United Methodist Church or to the New Carlisle Community Food Pantry through the church.
