COLUMBUS

Laura Lee Grana, 55, of Columbus, went to be with God in Heaven on March 2, 2021 in Houston, Texas. She passed peacefully with her family by her side after a courageous fight with cancer.

Laura had a true Indiana heart, as she was born and raised in Lafayette, IN, graduated from the Purdue University School of Pharmacy, and eventually settled down with her husband of 32 years and two children in Columbus, IN. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Besides spending time with her family, she was an active leader in her community. She was a pharmacist at Columbus Regional Hospital for 23 years where she mentored countless pharmacy students and residents, taught a drug dosage calculations course to nursing students at IUPUC, served as the Parkside Elementary School PTO President, the Columbus North High School Athletic Booster Club President, Co-chaired the Lincoln Center Figure Skating Club’s annual ice show, and fostered dogs for Clancy’s Dream.

She is survived by her husband Tom Grana, their two children, Allison (Adam) Smith and Vince Grana, her parents, Jack and Sharon Merkel, her sisters, Jackie (the late John) Widau and Brenna (Dave) Whaley. She is an aunt to 8 nieces and nephews and a great aunt to many more.

She was loved by so many and her time on this earth came to an end too soon. She will be dearly missed in this life, although her spirit lives on in Heaven. In lieu of flowers, Laura requested donations be made to Clancy’s Dream Border Collie Rescue. Checks can be made to Kenny Shuck and mailed to 8092 Heathers Pass, Seymour, IN 47274 or with PayPal at www.clancysdream.org by clicking “donate”. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Teike officiating. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and 9:30 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the church. We do ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
