Leonard Albert Hartwell, 74, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at 11:08 a.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021 at his home.
Leonard was born September 24, 1947, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Roscoe Richard and Della Mae Campbell Hartwell.
Mr. Hartwell exceled at Special Olympic bowling and horseshoes. He enjoyed volunteering his time to helping homeless people in need. Leonard truly loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and accepted Him into his heart at an early age. He liked to watch the Indianapolis Colts play football and he also liked to watch western movies. Survivors include his nephews, Mark (Debbie) Hartwell of Edinburgh, Richie (Melanie) Hartwell of Batesville, Indiana; nieces, Tracy Spears of Columbus, Deanna (Dan) Jones of Carbon, Indiana and caregiver, Elishia (Dallas) Hendricks, also of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Hartwell, William “Bill” Hartwell and Charlie Ray Hartwell.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Minister Dallas Hendricks officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at barkesweaverglick.com. In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place after the funeral service. Inurnment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery at a later date.
