County council approves tax abatement requests on split votes

COLUMBUS — Tax abatement requests from two companies planning expansions in Edinburgh were approved in split votes Tuesday night by the Bartholomew County Council.

Drug Plastics Closures, 2875 W. County Road 800N, Edinburgh, is seeking to build a new facility connecting two existing buildings, investing about $14.72 million, as well as $11 million for new equipment.

Tsune America LLC, 12550 N. Presidential Way, Edinburgh, wants to build an 18,000-square-foot facility in a vacant lot next to its current building, with $3 million invested in developing the real estate and an additional $1 million on new equipment.

The requests were approved for 10-year tax abatements on property and five-year abatements for equipment, but on split votes by the council.

The Tsune request was approved on a vote of 3-2 with Councilman Greg Duke and Councilman Bill Lentz voting against and Councilwoman Evelyn Pence abstaining  The Drug Plastic Closures request was approved 6-1 with Lentz voting no.
