Jack L. Piercefield

COLUMBUS

Jack L. Piercefield, 89, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 1:57 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Jack entered life April 8, 1932, in Columbus, the loving son of Harry J. and Margaret Henderson Piercefield. On October 26, 1991, Jack married M. Joyce Adams Hendry at the First United Methodist Church by Reverend Larry Curtis.

Jack was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving in the Korean War. He entered active duty August 21, 1951, in Indianapolis and attained the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged August 20, 1954, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Jack was a former City of Columbus police officer and for many years was a successful salesman in the automobile industry. Most recently, Jack was a lab courier at Columbus Regional Health.

Jack was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed membership and the camaraderie in the Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Joyce; children, Xzondra (Charles) Edwards of San Antonio, Texas, Lori Jackson of Kokomo, Jack “Andy” (Lisa) Piercefield of Columbus, and Mary (Bob) Jarrard of Columbus; stepchildren, Ellen (David) Nash of Columbus and Bradley Ault of Buffalo, New York; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita Adkins of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Margaret Piercefield; daughter, Beth Piercefield; sisters, Frances, Betty, and Dorothy Piercefield, Thelma Britton, and Margaret Wells; and brothers, Marshall, Robert, Harry, and Ted Piercefield.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at First United Methodist Church; the Reverend Howard Boles will officiate. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Marine Corps Ceremonial Unit.

In keeping with Jack’s wishes, cremation will take place following the funeral service. Private inurnment will be at the First United Methodist Church Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society, First United Methodist Church or Golden K Kiwanis Club.
