Ferguson remains on Student Advisory Committee

Columbus North junior Ty Ferguson will remain on the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee for the 2022-23 school year.

Ferguson, who plays basketball for the Bull Dogs, is one of 18 student-athletes (nine incoming juniors and nine incoming seniors) on the committee. He spent the past year as a junior on the Student Advisory Committee.

The SAC meets twice each semester and is responsible for hosting meetings with student peers at the Fall Area Principals Meetings, assisting with the awards ceremonies at IHSAA state championship events, planning and administering the annual IHSAA Student Leadership Conference and to engaging in and supporting the activities of Special Olympics Indiana, including Unified Track and Field and Unified Flag Football. Other SAC functions include the development of an IHSAA Captain’s Handbook and assisting in the creation of multiple public service announcements addressing good sporting behavior which will be utilized during 2022-23 state championships events.

Panther athletes commit to colleges

Six Jennings County seniors participated in a signing ceremony Wednesday morning to compete in athletics at the collegiate level.

Swimming and tennis standout Reagan Brown will compete for the women’s rowing team at Indiana University. Other signees are Colton Ross (football, Franklin), Austin Martin (baseball, Goshen), Luke Ownbey (baseball, Hanover), Delaynee McCreary (softball, Taylor) and Alexis Kelley (women’s wrestling, Indiana Tech)

Hauser athletic events rescheduled

Hauser’s softball games scheduled for today at Waldron and Friday at home against Waldron have been postponed.

The Jets have rescheduled their home game with Triton Central for 5:30 p.m. Friday. The Hauser at Columbus East softball game, which was postponed from the first week of the season, has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Hauser’s track and field quad meet scheduled for today at Jac-Cen-Del has been canceled.

Also, the Columbus North at Columbus East Unified track and field meet that was postponed on Monday has been rescheduled for May 4.

East girls soccer to hold callout meeting

The Columbus East girls soccer team will hold a callout meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the school’s cafeteria.

All players who are interested in playing soccer at East next year and their parents are encouraged to attend. The coaching staff will provide information regarding the program, expectations and preseason schedule.

Teams to host Middle School Football Camp

Columbus North coach Tim Bless and Columbus East coach Eddie Vogel and their staffs will host the 2022 Columbus Middle School Football Camp from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 16 and 18 at North and May 17 and 19 at East for those entering Grades 7 and 8 at Central or Northside Middle School.

Campers will participate in football drills stressing the safest and most fundamentally-sound techniques. This will not be a full-contact camp.

Walkup registration will be available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the first night of the camp at North. Cost is $50, with cash or checks payable to “Columbus Football Camp.”

North to host girls basketball camp

Columbus North girls basketball will hold its summer youth camp May 31 to June 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. for incoming fifth-through-eighth-graders and from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for incoming second-through-fourth-graders.

Campers will be instructed by North coach Brett White and his staff, along with college and high school players. Cost is $75 for Grades 5-8 and $70 for Grades 2-4.

East to host boys basketball camps

The Columbus East boys basketball team will be hosting a skills camp for three age groups June 6-9 at East High School.

The Primary Camp will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and is for boys entering Grades 2 and 3. The Intermediate Camp will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and is for boys entering Grades 4 and 5. The Middle School Camp will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is for boys entering Grades 6 through 8.

Cost for each camp is $50, with $30 for each additional camper in the same household. Campers should register by May 29 to receive a camp t-shirt.
