North downs Flashes

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North rested its top three golfers on Wednesday, but still picked up a 159-186 win against Franklin Central at Smock.

Jack Schiavello led the Bull Dogs with a 38. John Merrick carded a 39, Luke Friend added a 40, John Ferguson and Brady Schneider each shot 42 and John Perkins had a 45.

Eagles get first win

NASHVILLE — Savannah Oden clubbed a three-run walkoff homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give Brown County its first win in two years and give Elyse Babb-Snider her first coaching victory, an 8-5 Western Indiana Conference triumph against Indian Creek.

Oden finished 2 for 3 with the three RBIS, Kailey Buccos went 2 for 3 with a double and Lexie Austin went 2 for 4 for the Eagles (1-6, 1-2). Ally Hash had two RBIs.

Ava Sanders threw a seven-hitter and struck out seven.

Chargers topple Lancers

GREENSBURG — MacKenzie Bieker took a no-hitter into the sixth inning Wednesday, but with the score tied 1-1, North Decatur took advantage of seven Lancer errors to score 10 runs off Bieker and Gracie Crawhork in the sixth and post an 11-1, six-inning Mid-Hooiser Conference win.

Kyah Streeval went 2 for 3 for the Lancers (4-5, 2-3). Bieker finished with 12 strikeouts in five-innings.

TRACK AND FIELD

Cougars sweep East

Bloomington North swept a dual meet at Columbus East on Tuesday, winning the boys meet 95-37 and the girls contest 95 1/2-25 1/2.

Anthony Lloyd won the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches), Gavin Edgecomb took the long jump (19-6 1/2), Charlie Russell captured the 110-meter hurdles (16.47 seconds) and Rocco Duffy won the 200 (23.23) to lead the Olympian boys.

For the girls, East’s Emma Gray won the 100 (13.31), Norah Dwenger took the 400 (1:04.31) and Madison Mount captured the 300 hurdles (50.05)

Panthers sweep tri meet

SELLERSBURG — Jennings County’s boys and girls swept a tri meet Tuesday at Silver Creek. The Panther boys scored 122 points to 27 for Silver Creek and 15 for Rock Creek Academy, while the Jennings girls scored 97 to 65 for Silver Creek and one for Rock Creek.

Skyler Lewis won the high jump (5-4) and 200 (24.5), Branden Braun took the long jump (19-4) and 100 (11.8) and Cole Marksberry captured the 110 hurdles (16.8) and 300 hurdles (43.7) to lead the Panther boys. Other winners were Jake Sturgeon in the shot put (40-3), Peyton Hayden in the discus (126-6), Eli Wahlman in the 1,600 (4:46), Lane Elsner in the 400 (54.0), Kraedyn Young in the 800 (2:09.7) and Brenden Baker in the 3,200 (10:35).

Evan Sochacki, Elsner, Levi Marsh and Caleb Grills tied for first in the pole vault, and Jennings swept the 4×800, 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

Cheyeanna Leslie led the Panther girls with wins in the shot (29-8) and discus (76-7). Other winners were Rachael Manning in the pole vault, Rilee Hicks in the high jump, Avery Willhite in the 1,600, Lily Ernstes in the 400 and Halle Franks in the 3,200. Jennings also captured the 4×800 relay.

Cougars sweep quad

SEYMOUR — South Decatur’s boys and girls swept a quad meet Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran. The South Decatur boys scored 100 points to 67 for Oldenburg Academy, 23 for Shawe Memorial and 17 for Trinity; while the South Decatur girls scored 78 points to 52 for Trinity, 36 for Oldenburg and 24 for Shawe.

Lucas Ballard led the South Decatur boys with wins in the 100 (11.7) and 200 (23.4). Ian Frensemeier took the shot (40-9), McKinley Shook captured the 110 hurdles (17.9), Kelby Shook won the 400 (55.7), Chase Kalli took the 800 (2:23) and South Decatur captured the 4×800 (9:36), 4×100 (46.5) relays.

For the girls, Maria Nobbe won the 300 hurdles (51.4), Brayley Sundal took the 200 (29.3) and South Decatur swept the 4×800 (12:42), 4×100 (55.7) and 4×400 (4:50) relays.

GIRLS TENNIS

Jets fall to Pirates

HOPE — Greensburg won four matches in straight sets Wednesday in a 5-0 win at Hauser.

Bella Kilps fell to Jenna Foster 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Charlie Clark lost to Abigail Hoeing 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Addyson Barriger fell to Kayla Kramer 6-0, 6-7 (5), (10-5) at No. 3 singles for the Jets (2-4).

Hauser’s Gabby Johns and Mattie Foster lost to Janae Comer and Hailey Duerstock 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Lydia Jordan and Abby Blair fell to Leah West and Morgan Cain 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles top Lancers

NASHVILLE — Edinburgh pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 singles, but Brown County took the other four matches to claim a 4-1 victory on Wednesday.

Anna Tipton beat Jessica Walsh 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Mattie Satter topped Jillian Turner 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (5-1). Brown County’s Katie Tipton and Abie Bowman downed Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryan 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Mary Rygiel and Julia Burt defeated Gracie Myers and Zoey Sida 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

The win for the Lancers (2-3) came at No. 1 singles, where Bethany Burton beat Anna Stogsdill 6-4, 5-7, (10-7).

BASEBALL

Shawe stops Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur outhit Shawe Memorial 9-8, but the Hilltoppers posted a 6-3 victory on Wednesday.

Evan Wullenweber went 3 for 3 for the Cougars (8-2). Cameron Henderson went 2 for 2 with a double, and Dale Peters went 2 for 3 with a double.

Chargers edge Lancers

GREENSBURG — Edinburgh outhit North Decatur 4-3 Wednesday, but came away with a 2-0 MHC loss.

Gage Bennett went 2 for 2 for the Lancers (0-6, 0-4). Travis Jones threw a three-hitter and struck out eight.

Braves blank Eagles

NASHVILLE — Indian Creek scored 15 times in the first three innings and went on to hand Brown County an 18-0, six-inning WIC defeat on Wednesday.

Jack Sichting and Gavin Butcher had the hits for the Eagles (0-5, 0-3).
