Bull Dogs win again

TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North scored five times in the top of the first and stole a total of 17 bases Saturday in a 14-4 Conference Indiana win at Terre Haute North.

Zach McLean had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs for the Bull Dogs (11-2-2, 2-0). Conner Hensley had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs.

Dyllan Redmon had two hits, including a home run, Tyler Blythe had two hits and Dillon James had three RBIs. Luke Harmon threw a six-hitter and struck out eight.

East splits with Panthers

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East bounced back from a 6-5 loss in the first game of a doubleheader with an 8-2 second-game win Saturday at Bloomington South.

Blake Borkhardt went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Harry Major went 3 for 5 in the opener. Ty Uphaus went 2 for 4 with a double, and Tyler Bumbalough went 2 for 4.

In the second game, Borkhardt went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Zapfe went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs for the Olympians (6-9-1). Parker Harris and Will Boyer combined on a six-hitter.

Jets salvage split

HOPE — Hauser bounced back from a 7-5 first-game defeat to edge Jac-Cen-Cel 3-2 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Jets (8-8) were limited to three hits in both games. Sam Louden threw a three hitter for Hauser in the second contest.

Jennings sweeps Warriors

WHITELAND — Jennings County swept a doubleheader Saturday at Whiteland, winning 7-4 and 17-5 in five innings.

Austin Byford went 2 for 4 in the opener. Aaron Martin picked up the win on the mound.

In the second game, Jacob Vogel went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Lane Zohrlaut went 2 for 2, Byford went 2 for 4 with a double, Logan McIntosh went 2 for 4, Alex Leach had a home run and three RBIs and Greyson Jackson added a double and two RBIs for the Panthers (14-6). Carson McNulty picked up the win in relief of Cole Sigler.

Cougars top Mohawks

WALDRON — South Decatur remained unbeaten in the Mid-Hoosier Conference with a 5-2 win Friday at Waldron.

Dale Peters went 3 for 4, Zaydun Sharp went 3 for 5 and Hunter Johnson went 2 for 3 for the Cougars (13-2, 6-0). Devin Pate went 2 for 5 and threw a five-hitter.

Jets win pair of games

OSGOOD — Class A No. 7 Hauser pounded out 34 hits in rolling to a pair of wins on Saturday, beating Jac-Cen-Del 13-0 and Borden 15-2 in five innings.

Izzy Brunner went 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Lucie Asher went 3 for 4, Reagan Johnson went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Hannah Taylor went 2 for 5 against Jac-Cen-Del. Kaydence Gates went 2 for 4 with a double and threw a six-hit shutout.

Johnson went 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, Maley Jordan went 3 for 3, Haylin Campbell went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Asher and Kyra Meister each went 2 for 4 and Brunner went 2 for 5 with two RBIs for the Jets (9-2-1) against Borden. Paige McDaniel went 2 for 3 and threw a five-hitter.

East splits with Braves

BROWNSTOWN — Columbus East beat 3A co-No. 11 Brownstown Central 6-2 in the first game, but dropped the second game 6-4 on Saturday.

Kenzie Foster and Brooklyn Saxe each went 3 for 4 with a double, and Kaylee Cole and Megan Kennedy each went 2 for 4 in the opener. Kaylee Smith and Allison Griggs combined on a five-hitter.

The Olympians (6-11-1) outhit the Panthers 9-6 in the second game. Addy Ross went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Kennedy went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Foster went 2 for 4 with a double.

Panthers, Cubs split

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County split a doubleheader with Madison on Saturday, winning the opener 5-2 and dropping the second game 11-5.

Alexis Carson went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, and Kenzie Matern went 2 for 4 and threw a five-hitter in the first game. Grace George had two RBIs.

Madison scored seven times in the first inning of the second game and limited the Panthers (7-9) to six hits.

Trinity splits pair

NEW ALBANY — Trinity Lutheran bounced back from a 9-0 loss to Lanesville with a 6-4 win against Henryville in Saturday’s New Albany Invitational.

Bailey Tabeling and pitcher Kamzi Gross each had two hits against Henryville for the Cougars (7-5). Olivia Cain had two RBIs.

BOYS GOLF

North 2nd, East 9th

BEDFORD — No. 11 Columbus North finished second in Saturday’s Bedford North Lawrence Invitational at Otis Park. Jasper won with a 314 to 316 for the Bull Dogs and 319 for BNL.

Luke Schneider

Luke Schneider won medalist honors with a 73 to lead North. Tyler Wilks finished ninth individually with an 80, Willy Davis added an 81, Jack Schiavello shot 82 and Aditya Banerjee had an 87. John Merritt played as an individual and finished with an 86.

Columbus East finished ninth with a 359. Pierce Arnholt led the Olympians with an 86, while J.T. Kuhlman carded an 87, Ben Luedeke added a 90, Spencer Erfmeier shot 96 and Jared Brooks had a 99.

Panthers take seventh

MADISON — Jennings County finished seventh out of 13 teams with a 379 in Saturday’s Madison Invitational at Sunrise. Cathedral won with a 301.

Davey Shaw led the Panthers with a 92. Jack George added a 93, Jake Grider and Tanner Stearns each shot 97 and Rowan Cook had a 101.

GIRLS TENNIS

Bull Dogs go 2-1

AVON — No. 3 Columbus North bounced back from a 3-2 loss to No. 2 Jasper on Friday night with a 4-1 win against No. 11 Penn and a 5-0 shutout of No. 16 Avon on Saturday in the Avon Invitational.

Ashlie Wilson at No. 1 singles and Kathryn Wilson at No. 2 singles went 3-0 for the tournament for the Bull Dogs (7-2). Aya Saad at No. 3 singles and Annabelle Sun and Sydney Cooper at No. 2 doubles went 2-1, and Tiffany Fu and Leah George went 1-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Panthers stop Rebels

HANOVER — Jennings County won all three singles matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win Saturday at Southwestern (Hanover).

Reagan Brown blanked Lauryn Blondell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown beat Ella Rice 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Mia Silvey topped McKinze Belton 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (7-6). Maria Alberti and Lucy Brown defeated Kyla Robertson and Brooke Schnelder 6-3, 4-6, (10-7) at No. 1 doubles.

Jennings’ Caitlyn Shuck and Amy Vogel fell to McKinley Correll and Faith Kelley 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles win one of three

MUNCIE — Brown County went 1-2 in Saturday’s Delta Invitational, falling to Fort Wayne Carroll 4-1, beating Yorktown 3-2 and falling to Kokomo 3-2.

Katie Tipton and Mary Rygiel went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles (7-4). Anna Stogsdill at No. 1 singles, Anna Tipton at No. 2 singles, Mattie Satter at No. 3 singles and Julia Burt at No. 3 singles all won one match, and Kylie Workman and Burt had one victory at No. 2 doubles.

TRACK AND FIELD

East girls take third

ST. LEON — The Columbus East girls finished third out of nine teams in Friday’s East Central Invitational. East Central won with 174 points, Batesville took second with 110 and the Olympians edged South Ripley 74-73 for third.

East’s Emma Gray won the 100 meters in 13.45 seconds and also finished third in the 100 hurdles (16.60) and 300 hurdles (50.35). Megan Tracy took second in the discus (112 feet, 2 inches), and Jenna Guse was second in the 400 (1:03.27).

Hauser boys prevail

HOPE — Hauser split a dual meet with Indy Genesis on Friday, with the Jet boys winning 70-49 and the Genesis girls prevailing 96-21.

Aleck Lopez won the long jump (20-10) and 100 (11.5), Cephus Zulu took the 110 hurdles (19.3) and 300 hurdles (44.8) and Colin Kistler captured the 1,600 (5:06.1) and 800 (2:19.1) to lead the Hauser boys. Alex Bower won the high jump (5-4), Will Walters took the shot put (32-3) and the Jets captured the 4×100 (46.6) and 4×400 (3:39.9) relays.

Callie Swegman was the lone event winner for the Hauser girls, taking the 3,200 (14:05.8).

Bull Dogs take fifth

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North finished fifth with 73 points in Saturday’s Conference Indiana meet at Bloomington North. Bloomington South won with 200.

Gavin Bayne finished fourth in the long jump (14-3), Morgan Johnson took fourth in the 100 (15.98) and Noah Marsh was fourth in the 400 (1:04.80) to lead the Bull Dogs. Lydia Andrews, Shayla Whitchurch, Chariyah Bowens and Lucy Wilson placed third in the girls 4×100 relay (1:20.59).

East hosts HHC meet

Columbus East and Jennings County competed in the Hoosier Hills Conference meet Saturday at East,

Jennings’ Kameron Carney won his flight in the long jump (11-2 1/2), and Ayden Benson won his heat of the 400 (1:12.08). Second-place finishers for the Panthers were Nicholas Brewer in the long jump (16-6 3/4), Joann Barringer in the 100 (17.90), Robert Pedigo in the 400 (1:13.72) and the girls 4×100 relay (1:10.12).

East’s Jerik Hamilton won his flight of the shot (16-2 1/2) and his heat of the 100 (23.39). Josie Havenaar finished second in her heat of the 400 (1:25.70).

BOYS LACROSSE

Columbus routs Franklin

Curran O’Connor scored four goals to lead Columbus to a 15-0 rout of Franklin on Saturday.

Owen Barkes netted two goals and three assists, Evan Federle recorded two goals and two assists, and Nathan Wettschurack and Lucas Fedawa each had two goals and one assist. Evan Babb notched one goal and one assist, Kameron Nielsen and Lawrence Dleano each scored one goal and Angel Villegas, Brayson Bennett and Tony Sanchez all added one assist. Bennett posted five saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Columbus downs Whiteland

Rylie Boezeman scored four goals to lead Columbus to a 10-4 win against Whiteland on Saturday.

Meghan Ives had two goals and two assists. Jayden Cross and Kasey Kelley each added two goals. Claire King recorded five saves.
