Police memorial service to be Friday at Public Safety Plaza

COLUMBUS, Ind. — In commemoration of National Police Week, a memorial to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the Public Safety Plaza near Second Street and Jackson Street in downtown Columbus.

During the 30-minute ceremony, officers will honor the 617 police officers and 21 police canines who died in the line of duty in 2021.

This year’s event will feature area law enforcement honor guards, bagpipers, a “21-gun” salute and the playing of Taps.

The event is free and the public is invited.
