North Sectional suspended
The Columbus North Sectional was suspended because of rain and lightning with only one event completed.
The Bull Dogs’ Mateo Mendez, Kellen Hottell, Matt Newell and Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff won the 4×800-meter relay in 7 minutes, 55.40 seconds. Most of the field events also were underway, but the running preliminaries had not started.
The meet will resume at 6:30 p.m. today.
SOFTBALL
East downs Scottsburg
SCOTTSBURG — Columbus East won for the second time in as many nights, beating Scottsburg 4-1 in a game that was shortened to five innings because of weather.
Mackenzie Sigman went 2 for 2, Kenzie Foster went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and Addy Ross went 2 for 3 for the Olympians (8-16-1). Megan Kennedy threw a four-hitter.
Panthers rally for win
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County overcame a 5-0 deficit with six runs in the third and four in the fourth in a game that was called after four innings.
Alexis Carson went 2 for 2 for the Panthers (10-17). Delaynee McCreary had a triple and two RBIs.
Lancers fall to Mohawks
WALDRON — Edinburgh led 4-1 after four innings, but Monrovia scored four times in the fifth and held on for a 6-4 victory.
Kyah Streeval went 2 for 3 for the Lancers (10-11). MacKenzie Bieker threw a six-hitter with 14 strikeouts.
BASEBALL
Jets topple Jackets
MORRISTOWN — Hauser overcame an early 2-0 deficit and an hour-and-a-half rain delay to finish its Mid-Hoosier Conference championship season with an 8-3 win at Morristown.
Eli Miller went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and threw an eight-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the Jets (15-10, 11-1). Holden Pittman had two RBIs.
Cougars no-hit Tigers
GREENSBURG — Brady Lane and Cam Henderson combined on a no-hitter to lead South Decatur to an 11-1, five-inning win against Crothersville.
Dale Peters went 2 for 3 for the Cougars (17-6), who snapped a four-game losing streak.
Twisters top Lancers
WALDRON — Edinburgh was within 3-2 after 2 1/2 innings, but Oldenburg Academy pulled away for a 12-2, five-inning victory.
Riley Palmeter went 2 for 3 with a double, and Jarrett Turner went 2 for 3 for the Lancers (5-15).
GIRLS TENNIS
Panthers move to semis
GREENSBURG — Jennings County swept the three singles matches before the rain came, and that was all it needed to post a 3-0 win against Shawe Memorial in the first round of the Greensburg Sectional.
Reagan Brown beat Lauren Grote 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown topped Kelly McClure 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Mia Silvey defeated Megan Morrison 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (10-11)
Maria Alberti and Lucy Brown were leading Lina Leatherman and Jessica Lopez 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 at No. 1 doubles when play was suspended. That match will be resumed at 5 p.m. today, at the same time the other four positions will begin their semifinal match against Madison.
The No. 2 match between Jennings’ Amy Vogel and Caitlyn Schuck and Shawe’s Carson Cooke and Autumn Lathrem will not be completed.
