Police Memorial Service honors those who died in the line of duty

COLUMBUS, Ind. — In commemoration of National Police Week, a memorial to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty was held Friday morning at the Public Safety Plaza near Second Street and Jackson Street in downtown Columbus.

During the 30-minute ceremony, officers honored the 617 police officers and 21 police canines who died in the line of duty in 2021.

This year’s event featured  area law enforcement honor guards, bagpipers, a “21-gun” salute and the playing of Taps.
