COLUMBUS, Ind. — In commemoration of National Police Week, a memorial to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty was held Friday morning at the Public Safety Plaza near Second Street and Jackson Street in downtown Columbus.
During the 30-minute ceremony, officers honored the 617 police officers and 21 police canines who died in the line of duty in 2021.
This year’s event featured area law enforcement honor guards, bagpipers, a “21-gun” salute and the playing of Taps.
