Jackson V. Moffatt, 96, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on May 30, 2022, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Jack was born on May 4, 1926, on the family farm in Rock Run (West Union), Doddridge County, West Virginia. He was the son of Lawrence and Zella Moffatt, was one of eight children, and the last of his family generation.

Jack joined the US Navy in 1944. After the war, he went home where he met the love of his life, Ruth Hefner. They eloped in Kentucky on February 4, 1947. They were married 74 years before Ruth passed in May 2021.

Jack and Ruth lived in West Virginia where they welcomed two sons; Richard Allen and Lawrence Edward. With family in tow, Jack went to Salem College in West Virginia on the GI bill where he received his business degree. They moved to Columbus, Indiana in 1950 where they had two more sons, William Jackson, and James Steven.

Jack’s work history included employment at Montgomery Ward, Sears, Dunlap and Company, The Evening Republican, The Republic, and Nyffeler Appliance where he retired.

Jack was a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also loved sports, especially golf, which he loved to play.

Jack is survived by his sons, Richard (Betty) Moffatt of Lakeland, Florida; Larry (Tresa) Moffatt; Bill (Lisa) Moffatt; Steve (Cheryl) Moffatt, of Columbus, Indiana; grandchildren, Kimberly (Chad) Moffatt Townsend; Amy (Rick) Moffatt Gilliam; Brad Moffatt; Suzanne (Blake) Moffatt Mayfield; Joss (Angel) Moffatt; Stephanie (Michael) Moffatt West; James Moffatt; Kyra Harden Jewell; Jeni Byrd Moffatt; great-grandchildren, Kayla (Korbin) Gilliam Guffey; Ty Gilliam; Zarek Moffatt; Katy Moffatt; Carson Mayfield; Ethan Mayfield; Leslie Townsend; Lynn Townsend; Sarah West; William West; great-great-grandchildren, Ryan Guffey and Everlyn Guffey,

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Zella Moffatt; his wife Ruth Moffatt; brothers, Julius Moffatt; Bob Moffatt; Joseph Moffatt; Jim Moffatt; his sisters, Lillian Griffith; Lucille Knight; Virginia Robbins; his daughters-in-law, Tresa Moffatt; Lisa Moffatt; and grandson, Blake Mayfield.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Garland Brook Cemetery.
