Prep Sports Notebook: East’s Ianni earns HM All-State honor

Ethan Ianni, who led Columbus East to the final four in Class 4A, has been named honorable mention All-State by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Ianni went 6-3 with a 3.22 ERA and one save as a senior for the Olympians, who won sectional and regional titles. At the plate, he had five doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Ianni, who was this year’s Republic Baseball Player of the Year, is headed to Jackson (Michigan) College.

Ferguson elected to IBCA board

Columbus North boys basketball coach Paul Ferguson has been elected as one of the District 3 boys representatives for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Ferguson replaces outgoing District 3 boys representative Brandon Hoffman of Silver Creek. Greensburg’s Jason Simpson is replacing Jennings County’s Kristi Sigler as a District 3 girls representative.

Three representatives from each of three boys districts and two representatives from each of the three girls districts serve three-year terms.

Wilson selected North tennis MVP

Senior Ashlie Wilson, who led Columbus North to Conference Indiana, sectional and regional titles, has been named MVP of the Bull Dog girls tennis team.

Senior Tiffany Fu won the Bull Dog Player Award and shared the Mental Attitude/Sportsmanship Award with senior Leah George and sophomore Kathryn Wilson. Senior Sydney Cooper and freshman Annabelle Sun were named Most Improved Players. Ashlie Wilson, Fu and Lizzie Bodart won the Bull Dog Pride Award.

Ashlie Wilson and Fu were recognized as team captains, and Siri Poludash and Zoe Bishop were selected team captains for 2023. Poludasu, Lison Cloteaux and Marcella Bruner were named Reserve Most Improved Players; and Mila Esposito, Natalie Cantu and Bishop shared the Reserve Mental Attitude/Sportsmanship Awards.

Schneider named North golf MVP

Senior Luke Schneider, who qualified for state as an individual and earned All-State honors, has been selected MVP of Columbus North’s boys golf team.

Junior Willy Davis, who also qualified for state as an individual, won the Bull Dog Award. Senior Aditya Banerjee received the team’s John Carmichael Scholarship.

Duo share Hauser golf MVP award

Senior Chase Martoccia and sophomore Caleb Wallace have been named co-MVPs of the Hauser boys golf team.

Sophomore Zach Weichman won the Most Improved Player Award.
