James Keith Thompson

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

James Keith Thompson, 91, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 1:47 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in the Emergency Department at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. Thompson was born in Bartholomew County, March 26, 1931, the son of Charles Everett and Mildred E. Brown Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the 1949 graduating class of Columbus High School. On September 30, 1951, in Indianapolis, Mr. Thompson married Beulah I. Pruitt; she survives.

Mr. Thompson was the District Engineering Coordinator for the Indiana Gas Company in the Columbus and Seymour districts; he retired in 1990 after 33 years of service.

Mr. Thompson was a member of First Christian Church and he attended Columbus Free Methodist Church and the East Columbus Christian Church. He had a passion for camping, spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and going to church. He also enjoyed playing and performing country and gospel music with The Sound of Yesterday’s Band.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Beulah; children, Wanda (Dan) Lunsford of Columbus, Brenda (Jerry) Prall of Columbus, Linda (Eric) Scheidt of Columbus, Brian (Kimberly) Thompson of Nashville, Lynn (Lisa) Thompson of Columbus, Alan (Kim) Thompson of Pennsylvania, and Randy (Jenny) Thompson of Columbus; grandchildren, Jim (Kelly) Lunsford, Cindy Lunsford, Matthew (Hannah) Prall, Katie Prall, Lindsey (Andy) England, Kelsey Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Bradan Thompson, Kelly Thompson, Audrey Thompson, Maddison Thompson, and Harrison Thompson; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Pat) Anthony of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Charles and Virginia Thompson; mother and stepfather, Mildred and Roscoe Anthony; grandsons, Logan Thompson, Bradley Thompson, and Sergeant Jonathon Michael Hunter; and brothers, Harold Thompson and Dwight and Louis Cardinal.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Douglas Bauman will officiate. A live stream of the funeral service may be seen at barkesweaverglick.com.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Mr. Thompson will be laid to rest in Section 75 at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
