Reading “A different perspective for America’s critics” by Christine Flowers (The Republic, July 16), caused me to recall the naturalization ceremony for my son-in-law a few years ago. After it concluded, I told everyone I saw that everyone should attend one to be reminded of what America really is and how lucky we are to be American citizens while others crave to also be.

The speeches and activities were reminders of what we know, but often forget.
