Local band wins album honor

The local Night Owl Country Band, a nationally touring act, has won Band Album of the Year for its 2021 release “Off the Tracks” from the International Singer Songwriters Association at its award ceremony Saturday at the Sandy Sharp Performance Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

More than 20,000 acts nominated their best work for a range of honors, then fans voted for finalists, and then a panel of industry and musician judges selected the winners.

“We were on cloud nine,” said Matt Lee, the band’s lead vocalist and bass player. “This definitely helps build our resume.”

This is the third award that the foursome has won from the association of independent artists.

The group’s next local performance will be opening for singer and former “Brady Bunch” TV star Barry Williams Sept. 24 at Hope Heritage Days in Hope.

Besides Lee, Night Owl consists of lead guitarist Tim Dooley, Brett Denney, rhythm guitar, Casey Johnson, drums, and roadie John Barr.
