Club Olympia trio help Team Indiana to Central Zones win

Club Olympia’s Josh Pendleton helped Team Indiana to the Central Zones 14-and-under Championship last weekend in Elkhart.

Three Club Olympia Swimmers qualified and were invited to be a part of Team Indiana for the 2022 Central Zones 14-and-under Championship last weekend in Elkhart against teams representing Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

At the close of the four day event, Team Indiana claimed first place with 4,783 points, outdistancing runner-up Ohio (3829.5 points) and third-place Michigan (3223.5).

Club Olympia’s Josh Pendleton scored 98 points, winning the 11-12 boys 200-meter butterfly and 1,500 freestyle with personal-best times in each. In the 200 butterfly, Pendleton trailed by a second with 50 meters remaining, but closed the gap with a fast final 50 to win by a half-second.

Pendleton also placed second in the 800 freestyle, fourth in the 400 freestyle and fifth in the 400 individual medley. He also swam as part of the 11-12 fourth-place 400 medley relay and fifth-place 400 freestyle relay teams. Pendleton made the podium (top-eight) in all his events for the weekend.

Club Olympia’s Tony Machavariani helped Team Indiana to the Central Zones 14-and-under Championship last weekend in Elkhart.

Tony Machavariani, competed in the 9-10 boys age group and scored 81 points. He won the 100 butterfly and placed third in the 200IM and 400 freestyle, seventh in the 50 freestyle, eighth in the 200 freestyle and 11th in the 50 butterfly. He also swam as part of the second-place 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.

Connelly Furnish, competing in the 13-14 girls age group, scored five points for Team Indiana with a 12th-place finish in the 1,500 freestyle. She also had a personal-best time and finished 22nd in the 400 freestyle.

Club Olympia has completed its Long Course Summer Swim Season and will commence the Short Course Season in the next couple of weeks.

Panthers, Dragons split

Jennings County split its season openers with Silver Creek on Thursday, with the seventh-grade White team winning 25-16, 25-12 and the eighth-grade White team falling 25-18, 25-8.

Lydia Martin led the Panther seventh-graders with eight aces. Aniston Kent added five aces.

Aylan Belding led the eighth-graders with six points. Addi Petro added two points.

FOOTBALL

Knights top Panthers

Jennings County opened its season Tuesday with a 42-14 loss to South Dearborn.

Kyle Byram returned a fumble for a touchdown, and Ryan Clark returned an interception for a touchdown for the Panthers.
