Olympians get first win

Columbus East picked up its first win of the season Monday, a 5-0 victory against Bedford North Lawrence.

Erik Tahakashi beat Graham Turner 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Matthew Degner blanked Nate Pemberton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Brady Redelman topped Isaac Bridges 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (1-2).

East’s Ethan Bumbalough and Jacob Dettmer downed Jayden Kelly and Drew Stephenson 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Tyler Ernst and Henry Ulrich defeated Carter Krommel and Gavin Baker 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Jets notch first victory

MILAN — Hauser won its first match of the season, a 5-0 triumph at Milan.

Caleb Wallace beat Cayden Green 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Jackson Burcham topped Jeremy Jackson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Hagan Wiedersatz defeated Aiden MacFarland 4-6, 6-3, (10-8) at No. 3 singles for the Jets (1-3).

Hauser’s Levi Gollmer and Hunter Pappano downed Brandon Bently and Jon Scholle 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Jentzen Bechtel and Kameron Blair beat Ben Miller and Mason May 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers edge Pirates

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to claim a 3-2 victory against Greensburg.

Owen Law beat Brett Stringer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Parker Bales topped Dan Fisse 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (5-1). Justin Ramey and Ryan Schuck defeated Jack McKinsey and Abe Tebbe 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.

Jennings’ Janne Sebastian fell to Jeter Edwards 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Alex Leach and Ty Zohrlaut lost to Justin Adkins and Reece Beever 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers nip Jackets

MORRISTOWN — Edinburgh claimed its first win of the season, a 3-2 Mid-Hoosier Conference triumph at Morristown.

Max Blandford beat Tyler Schonfeld 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Austin Brockman topped Austin Gabbard 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Milas Burkman defeated Jacob Robey 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (1-4).

Edinburgh’s Bailey Totten and Braylon Lenkner fell to Dalton McMichael and Michael Ballinger 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Teddy Crawhorn and Jayson Music lost to Bryce Bryant and Brady Schonfeld 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

North downs Cougars

BLOOMINGTON — Ava Bunker fired a 37 to win medalist honors and lead Colubmus North to a 174-199 win against Bloomington North at Cascades.

Erin Hopkins carded a 41 for the Bull Dogs. Lindsey Hartwell added a 46, Ritisha Rashmil shot 50, Nettie Meeks had a 53 and Kara Buntin finished with a 64.

East takes second

FRANKLIN — Carter Gant fired a 1-under-par 35 to lead Columbus East finish to a second-place finish in a tri match at the Legends. No. 7 Franklin won with a 153 to 191 for the Olympians and 198 for Martinsville.

Katie Hong carded a 41 for East. Dyana Foster added a 56; Grace LaSell, Lilly Steinwedel and Avery Brooks all shot 59 and Ali Trueblood had a 61.

Bulldogs top Panthers

NEW ALBANY — Jennings County fell to New Albany 164-185.

Sophia Curry led the Panthers with a 40. Alexis Carson and Lauren Galvan each shot 42, and Rachael Manning and Shelby Davis each shot 61.

Columbus Christian wins

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus Christian picked up its first win of the season, a 25-14, 20-25, 25-16, 20-25, 15-9 victory at Horizon Christian.

Anika Jenkins recorded three kills and four digs, and Grace Johnson had seven assists and 15 aces to lead the Crusaders (1-2). Natalie Sanders pounded three kills, Emma Murray had four blocks and Alexys Murray notched four digs.

Also for Columbus Christian, Alexys Murray, Emma Murray and Emma Sewell all tallied two kills. Jenkins added three blocks and seven aces, Sewell recorded two assists, Paige Harden notched one assist, Mariah Holt had three blocks, Johnson added three digs and Alexys Murray served five aces.

Cougars fall in 5

GREENSBURG — South Decatur had a two-sets-to-one lead, but Shawe Memorial rallied for a 23-25, 25-23, 25-27, 25-17, 15-8 victory.

Makayla Somers recorded 25 assists and four blocks, and Zsophia Sharp had four blocks and two aces to lead the Cougars (7-4). Sophie Bushhorn pounded 13 kills, and Paige McQueen notched 11 digs.

Also for South Decatur, Sharp added 12 kills, and Somers tallied eight kills. Bushhorn had one block, and McQUeen served one ace.

GIRLS SOCCER

East falls to Panthers

BLOOMINGTON — Class 3A No. 13 Bloomington South scored three goals in the first 20 minutes and posted a 3-0 win against 3A No. 17 Columbus East.

The Panthers outshot the Olympians (1-1-1) 10-3. Anna Liimatti played the first 60 minutes in goal and recorded three saves, and Kate Stiles had one save over the final 20 minutes.

Lutheran tops Trinity

INDIANAPOLIS — Class A No. 15 Indianapolis Lutheran scored four times in the first half and went on to post a 5-0 win against Trinity Lutheran.

Peyton Pollert posted 11 saves for the Cougars (0-2-1).
