Three honored by Women in Leadership

The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the selection of three outstanding women who will share their stories at the 2022 Women in Leadership event in October.

The theme of this year’s event is “Surviving and Thriving in the Workplace.” It will feature a brief keynote address and remarks from three outstanding female leaders.

“Many of our community’s most successful professionals just so happen to be women. This event is consistently one of the most well-attended because it allows us to come together to celebrate the important contributions women make in our workplaces and our community,” said Cindy Frey, Chamber president.

This year’s honorees are Julie Del Genio, Shen Macheel and Mary Stroh.

Del Genio is human resources leader at Enkei America, Inc.

Trained as an attorney, Del Genio has served in professional roles at Cummins, Inc., Irwin Management and IMC Advisors. She has been a volunteer leader with United Way of Bartholomew County, Greater Columbus Economic Development Corp., kidscommons and the Columbus Area Arts Council.

She helped organize an exchange of scarce personal protective equipment between our city and several of Columbus’s Chinese friendship cities including Wuhan, Xiangyang, and Ningde early in the pandemic. Macheel has played a key role in local economic development efforts, representing LHP on the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corp. board of directors and joining Indiana’s trade missions to China, serving as a translator and cultural expert.

Stroh, is a partner at Sharpnack Bigley Stroh & Washburn LLP.

She has been active as a volunteer and board member for the Foundation for Youth, Children Inc., Bartholomew County Bar Association Board of Directors, First United Methodist Church, United Way Citizens’ Review, Indianapolis Bar Review, Columbus Express Soccer Club and Lincoln Central Neighborhood Family Center.

This year’s lunch will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 11:30 a.m. at The Commons.

During the program, each honoree will be given an opportunity to reflect on her professional journey, and to pinpoint decisions that required brave action.

In addition to hearing from the honorees, Chancellor’s Professor of English and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick, Ph.D., will speak to the attendees about exploring the differences between surviving and thriving in the workplace, through storytelling and evidence-based approaches.

The 2022 event is presented by Gold Sponsor Columbus Regional Health with additional support from Silver Sponsor Centra Credit Union.
