Braves sweep Bull Dogs

TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North scored 14 points in all three sets in a 25-14, 25-14, 25-14 Conference Indiana loss Saturday at Terre Haute South.

Karen Dutro led the Bull Dogs (11-16, 1-4) with six kills and five blocks. Emma Burns recorded seven assists, Emily Stair notched nine digs and Logan Branstetter served two aces.

Also for North, Branstetter pounded three kills, Reese Edwards tallied six assist and Kaitlin White had four blocks.

Lancers go 2-2

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh went 2-2 in its own tournament Saturday, falling to Speedway 25-17, 25-22; beating Southwestern (Hanover) 25-20, 25-13; losing to Lanesville 25-12, 25-19 and outlasting Oldenburg Academy 28-26, 13-25, 15-13.

Gracie Crawhorn recorded 22 kills, six blocks and 63 digs; and Kyah Streeval had 58 assists and four aces to lead the Lancers (17-10).

Also for Edinburgh, MacKenzie Bieker tallied 14 kills, three blocks and 34 digs; and Zoey Sida added 53 digs and three aces. Jessica Walsh contributed 10 kills and 33 digs, Kyah Streeval notched 35 digs, Kenna Streeval added 33 digs and Crawhorn served two aces.

Panther teams advance

AUSTIN — Jennings County’s boys finished second and girls fourth in Saturday’s Austin Sectional to advance to the Shelbyville Regional. Austin won both team titles

Kraedyn Young led the Panther boys with a second-place finish in 16 minutes, 47.2 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Eli Wahlman took fifth in 17:11.6, while Zachary Wahlman was 12th (17:56.9), Elijah Hatton 15th (18:02.4), Dawson Leak 16th (18:02.5), Noah McFall 17th (18:04.1) and Jace Vojufka 35th (19:10.8).

Halle Franks finished 13th in 21:25.1 to lead the Jennings girls. Avery Willhite was 16th (21:59.2), Haley Vogel 30th (23:23.8), Molly Wathen 31st (23:29.2), Grace Gambrel 37th (24:18.0), Kambrie Maschino 40th (24:36.7) and Kennedy Woods 47th (25:27.6).

Panthers fall to Floyd

NEW ALBANY — Floyd Central ended Jennings County’s season with a 5-0 victory in the New Albany Sectional final on Saturday.

Alayna Phillips posted 18 saves for the Panthers (5-11-2).

Pioneers top Trinity

SEYMOUR — Class A No. 2 Providence handed Trinity Lutheran a 9-0 defeat in Saturday’s Trinity Sectional final.

The Cougars finish the season 9-7.

Panthers upset Floyd

NORTH VERNON — Austin Wells kicked a 25-yard field goal with about 15 seconds remaining, and Lane Kirchner blocked a Floyd Central field goal attempt on the final play of the game Friday to give Jennings County a 24-21 Hoosier Hills Conference upset.

The Panthers (2-6, 1-4) led 14-7 at halftime after Matt Hines scored on a 1-yard run and a 32-yard pass from Parker Elmore in the second quarter. After the Highlanders tied it in the third quarter, Branden Braun ran 94 yards for a score to give Jennings a 21-14 lead.

Braun finished with 183 yards on 13 carries. Elmore completed 10 of 19 passes for 171 yards. Darius Thomas caught four passes for 92 yards.

Blaine Ison led the Panther defense with seven tackles.

Cougars rout Knights

GREENSBURG — Corbin Johnson carried 10 times for 202 yards and three touchdowns Friday to lead South Decatur to a 48-6 win against Southside HomeSchool.

Rhett Martin had 12 carries for 118 yards and one touchdown, and Tyler Bishop added five carries for 88 yards and two scores for the Cougars (4-4). Brady Lane carried seven times for 65 yards and one touchdown.

Martin and Isaac Gasper each had 10 tackles to lead the defense. Toby Bishop added seven tackles, including 4 1/2 tackles for losses.

Chargers top Eagles

NASHVILLE — North Putnam jumped out to a 33-7 halftime lead Friday and went on to post a 48-13 Western Indiana Conference win at Brown County.

Landon Scott scored on a 74-yard kickoff return in the second quarter, and Tommy Buccos ran 5 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for the Eagles (0-8, 0-4). Buccos finished with nine carries for 52 yards, and Noah Lewis completed 11 of 23 passes for 91 yards.
