Nico Gotoh// Columbus North junior soccer player

Gotoh scored the tying and winning goals Saturday in the Bull Dogs’ 3-1 victory against Franklin in the Roncalli Sectional final.

His performance last week: “I’m pleased with how I performed. I think the team performed very well, and we just have to take games one at a time and we’ll go far.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I like to just take deep breaths a few minutes before the game kicks off just to calm my nerves.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “Pasta”

Favorite class: “Medical Interventions”

Favorite sports team: “AC Milan”

Favorite athlete: “(Pro soccer player) Rafael Leao”

Role model: “My parents (Marc and Shoko Gotoh).”

Best advice: “To be a warrior, not a worrier.”

Athletics goal: “I’d like to play in college and hopefully professional one day.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Italy, because that’s where AC Milan is, and I really want to see them play one day.”

Emily Stair // Columbus North senior volleyball player

Emily Stair

Stair recorded 23 digs in a four-set loss at Bloomington South, going over the 1,000 digs mark for her career. She also led the Bull Dogs with 11 digs in a three-set loss at Franklin and nine digs in a three-set loss at Terre Haute South.

Her performance last week: “I think that we have a really good team this year that works together the whole time.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just take time to focus and quite time to reflect on the game that’s going to happen.”

Favorite drink: “The pink drink from Starbucks”

Favorite food: “Ribs”

Favorite class: “I like my business classes.”

Favorite sports team: “Chicago Cubs”

Favorite athlete: “(Pro volleyball player) Kerri Walsh Jennings”

Role model: “My mom (Sarah Stair)”

Best advice: “Put in 100 percent in everything you do in all aspects of life.”

Athletics goal: “To be able to make it past the sectional.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably the Maldives because it’s really pretty there.”
