Ledger Gelfius // Hauser sophomore basketball player

Gelfius led the Jets with 28 points and had three rebounds, three assists and two steals in a season-opening 73-33 win against Brown County.

His performance last week: “I’ve been working hard for it, and I just knew my time would come, and we got the win, so I feel pretty good about it.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just train every week, and I eat pasta and wear the same crocs to my games.”

Favorite drink: “Big Red”

Favorite food: “Japanese steakhouse food”

Favorite class: “Advanced PE or math”

Favorite sports team: “Purdue”

Favorite athlete: “Carson Edwards”

Role model: “My trainer (Kooper Glick)”

Best advice: “Stay consistent with your work ethic and how hard you work and block out the noise from outside.”

Athletics goal: “Be a 1,000-point scorer and make it to college basketball.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, because of the food and weather.”

Madelyn Poe // Hauser junior basketball player

Madelyn Poe

Poe led the Jets with 19 points and added three assists and three steals in a 61-30 win against Southwestern (Shelby) and had 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 47-43 loss at Rising Sun.

Her performance last week: “I thought that it was a really good week for our team. We lost on Saturday, but I think it was still a good game for our team. Hopefully, can continue to do well as we move forward in the season.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually, I listen to music during warmups, and then I pray during the national anthem.”

Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite class: “Yearbook”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “Michael Jordan”

Role model: “My parents (Cameron and Jessica Poe)”

Best advice: “Don’t take any moment for granted, especially in sports, because you never know if you’ll get injured or if it will be your last game.”

Athletics goal: “I want to play college basketball at some level.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, because I’ve always wanted to go there and I love the beach.”
