Flames teams win Howlin’ Mite Hockey Classic

The Columbus Flames 8U Orange won its division in the Howlin’ Mite Hockey Classic last weekend in Dayton, Ohio. Two Columbus Flames 8U hockey teams won tournament championships last weekend at the Howlin’ Mite Hockey Classic in Dayton, Ohio.

Flames 8U Orange went undefeated for the weekend, beating the Dayton Stealth-Montoya 18-1, Dayton Icehounds-White 16-1 and Lexington Thoroughbreds 15-0 in pool play and the Lexington Thoroughbreds again in the championship game 20-2. Carter Glaser played goalie for all four games. Cooper Dunn, David Olson, Eliot Gill, Joseph Shelton, Maverick Coy, Nolan Bush, Santiago Perez and Timo Bergmann all recorded goals and assists.

Flames 8U Blue also won its division, going 3-1 by defeating the Troy Bruins-Smith 8-3, falling to Troy Bruins-Black 1-6 and beating the Dayton Icehounds-Blue 16-1 before downing Troy Bruins-Black 7-2 in the championship. Hudson Sparkman played goalie for all four games. Alex Wu, Anderson Mihay, Archer Gill, Ashlyn Hawley, Connor Hoy, Emmett Grube, Gabe Taqueushi and Gen Mizusawa all recorded goals and assists.

Columbus Icemen varsity beat Carmel Gold 2-1 and St. Xavier 3-2. John Ferguson netted one goal and three assists, Alex Clark had one goal and two assists, Cadan Graham and Caleb McGhehey each added one goal and one assist and Will Kushner scored one goal. Jake McMullen was in net.

Columbus Icemen Prep fell to Fort Wayne Prep 6-1. Briceon Ernest scored off assists from Bryce McDonald and Jayden Pagan. Ben Blanz was in net.

Columbus Flames Bantam A swept Louisville Cardinals AA 3-1 and 3-2. River Degner netted three goals and two assists, Eddie Aranda had one goal and one assist, Ayden Richardson scored one goal and Carter Kareus added one assist. Lane Berringer was in net.

Columbus Flames Peewee AA swept Junior Fuel Black 7-2 and 4-2. Brooks Larsh netted three goals and two assists; Carter Davis and Ethan Neumann each recorded two goals and two assists; Maddox Coy notched two goals and one assist; Max Perez tallied one goal and one assist; Henry Schloemer scored one goal; Rowan Correll and Garrett Uy each had three assists; Keaton Grube contributed two assists and Thomas King, Robby Orgass and Logan Barringer all added one assist. Canyon Long saved 26 of 30 shots for a save percentage of 86.6%. Cayden Long saved 2 of 2 shots.

Columbus Flames Peewee B played Cincy Swords and tied 4-4 and lost 4-2. Nolan Sparkman recorded three goals and one assist, Henry Jamerson scored two goals, Hudson Maynard had one goal and one assist, Luke Getchell and Clare Neff each notched two assists and Graham Barnes added one assist. Knox Coen was in net.

Columbus Flames Squirt AA blanked Indy Junior Fuel Red 2-0 and 3-0. Dalton Larsh netted one goal and two assists; Carsen Sims had one goal and one assist; Declan Mcgurk, Thomas Degner and Ollie Jamerson all scored one goal and Chance Mathis added one assist. Cayden Long was in net, saving 35 of 35 shots for a save percentage of 100%.

BROOMBALL

MOR keeps league lead

Monsters of Rock remained atop the Columbus Broomball League with a 5-1 win against Toyota Tsunamis. Ben Eckhart scored two gaols, and Rob Jones, Austin Davis and Tyler Rash all added one for Monsters (9-1-1). Greg McNealy had the goal for Tsunamis (1-10).

Jennings County BC (2-9) edged CCA 2-1 behind goals from Mark Latta and Darien Castetter. Tim Walton scored for CCA (6-5).

Hansons and Our Name Is Earl played to a 3-3 tie. Keith Henry recorded a hat trick for Hansons (7-2-2), and Darren Eckerly had a hat trick for Earl (6-4-1).

BASKETBALL

Panthers rout Knights

The Jennings County eighth-grade girls rolled to a 53-6 win against South Dearborn on Thursday. Aniston Kent led the Panthers with 18 points, while Lydia Martin scored nine and Mookky Ratcliff added eight.

The Jennings seventh-grade girls JV team lost to Hauser 22-12. Myah Owens led the Panthers with four points.

Jennings’ eighth-grade girls team beat South Dearborn 41-24. Paige Hack scored 10 points, and Aylah Belding and Milly Gresham each added nine for the Panthers..
