BOYS BASKETBALL

North routs Trojans

ST. LEON — Columbus North led only 12-11 after one quarter Saturday, but outscored East Central 34-9 over the middle two quarters and went on to post a 55-29 road victory.

Tyler Blythe led the Bull Dogs (12-6) with 15 points. Cooper Horn scored 14, and Ty Ferguson added 11.

Olympians fall

Columbus East was within four points late in the game, but New Albany held on for a 64-53 Hoosier Hills Conference win.

Ben Sylva led the Olympians (1-16, 0-4) with 22 points. Ethan Bumbalough scored 12, and Zane Moravec added nine.

Crusaders split pair

Columbus Christian picked up a 79-64 win against Community Christian on Friday before falling to Crothersville 80-65 on Saturday.

Peyton Walden led the Crusaders with 24 points against Community Christian. Jordan Burton scored 15, Noah Edwards had 14, Cam Pritchard chipped in 11, Jacob Bell added eight and Branson Carr chipped in seven.

Waldon led Columbus Christian (13-14) with 30 points against Crothersville. Burton scored 14, and Bell added 12.

Lancers down Wildcats

BROOKVILLE — Franklin County led 32-29 at halftime, but Edinburgh rallied for a 69-59 victory.

Caleb Dewey led the Lancers (12-5) with 26 points. Jackson Hartwell scored 11, Jarrett Turner and Connor Ramey each had 10 and Braylon Bryant added seven.

Knights slip past Cougars

AURORA — South Deactur played without leading scorer and point guard Jacob Scruggs and fell 65-55 at South Decatur.

Dale Peters led the Cougars (8-10) with 19 points. Dorian Hacker scored 17, and Colby Rathburn added 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Trinity wins sectional

RISING SUN — Trinity Lutheran captured its fourth consecutive sectional title with a 65-46 win against Rising Sun in the Rising Sun Sectional final.

Bailey Tabeling led the Cougars (21-6) with 24 points. Liza Froedge scored 13, Madison Keith had 12 and Jordan Brewer added nine.

Trinity will play Springs Valley at 4 p.m. Saturday in the West Washington Regional final.

JCD tops South Decatur

SHELBYVILLE — South Decatur saw its season come to an end with a 43-34 loss to Jac-Cen-Del in the Southwestern (Shelby) Sectional final.

The Cougars finish the season 9-15.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Panther advances to state

FLOYDS KNOBS — Jennings County junior Avery Witt qualified for state in two events in leading the Panthers to a sixth-place team finish in the Floyd Central Sectional.

Witt won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 58.93 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:00.86). She also anchored Jennings’ second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:54.78).

The Panthers finished with 200 points. Floyd Central won with 502.
