Olympians, Bull Dogs go 1-2 in wrestling regional

JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East and Columbus North each sent 10 wrestlers to semistate and finished first and second in the team standings in Saturday’s Jeffersonville Regional.

The Olympians won with 158 points. The Bull Dogs finished second with 141, and host Jeffersonville was third with 83.5.

East was led by four individual champions — Talon Jessup (106 pounds), Jackson Fox (182), Tommy Morrill (220) and Patrick McMahon (285). Liam Krueger (126) finished second; while Gage Rutan (120), Caleb Cooper (132), Nate Anderson (145) and Tyler Lake (170) all took third and Bo Wagner (138) was fourth.

Justice Thornton

North’s Justice Thornton won the 132-pound title. Jason Shuey (138), Asher Ratliff (145), Liam Phillips (160), Evan Saevre (170) and Jose Ramirez (195) all finished second; Josiah Green (152) and Keller DeSpain (182) each took third and Nolan Riley (106) and Cody Thurnall (285) each were fourth.

Jennings County finished sixth as a team with 45.5 points and had three semistate qualifiers. Teagan Trotter won the 170-pound title, and Lane Kircher (132) took second and Evan Sochacki (138) was third.

The semistate is Saturday at Ford Center in Evansville. The top four in each weight class qualify for the Feb. 17-18 state finals in Indianapolis.
