Gavin Day // Columbus East sophomore diver

Day finished sixth in the Jasper Diving Regional to qualify for state, then finished 25th in the diving competition in Saturday’s Boys Swimming State Finals.

His performance last week: “Overall, I thought I had a really good regional performance. At state, I kind of choked my dives, but I’m really happy with how I performed the last couple weeks.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I like to eat rice cakes before I dive.”

Favorite drink: “Sweet tea and water”

Favorite food: “Buffalo sauce wings from Papa’s Grill”

Favorite class: “Geometry”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “(IU diver) Andrew Capobianco”

Role model: “My coaches, Cordell Glass and Nancy Snyder, and one of my friends, (New Albany diver) Colin Kruer”

Athletics goal: “To place on the podium next year at state.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Italy, because I think the culture is really cool and nice.”

Lauren Sanders // Columbus Christian freshman basketball player

Lauren Sanders

Sanders scored 17 points Saturday to help lead the Crusaders to a 64-37 win against Christian Academy of Madison in the ICSAA South Regional semifinals.

Her performance last week: “I feel like shots fell a lot better than they normally do, and I feel like I put in the effort that needed to be put in.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I normally come in 15 minutes before and shoot around.”

Favorite drink: “Coke”

Favorite food: “Chicken strips”

Favorite class: “Math”

Favorite sports team: “My (Columbus Christian basketball) team is my favorite team.”

Favorite athlete: “(Crusaders senior) Sarah Lorimor”

Role model: “Coach (Chris) Noblitt”

Best advice: “Nothing can be accomplished without effort.”

Athletics goal: “Improve on sports (volleyball and basketball).”
