Ledell McConnell

Ledell McConnell, 96, of North Vernon, formerly of Scipio, passed away at 12:56 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born November 13, 1926, in Midway, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Columbia “Lummie” (King) Shumate. She married John H. “Jack” McConnell on October 31, 1948, in Paris Crossing, Indiana. Together they shared 66 years together before he passed away on March 7, 2015.

Mrs. McConnell was a 1944 graduate of Paris Crossing High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Scipio Presbyterian Church in Scipio and was a longtime member of the church choir. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and crafts. She was well known for her homemade birthday cards. Mrs. McConnell lived for the last few years at Autumn Trace and loved every minute of it. She made many friends with the residents and staff and loved crafting and going on field trips.

Survivors include her son, Greg (Cheryl) McConnell of Fountain Hills, Arizona; daughter, Robin (Mike Jones) Puterbaugh of Indianapolis; son-in-law, Marty Echelbarger of Santa Claus; grandchildren, Eric Echelbarger of Kokomo, John B. (Ashley) Echelbarger and Jeffrey (Morgan) Echelbarger, both of Santa Claus, Lucas (Lindsay) McConnell of Windsor, Colorado, Pierce (Chanda) McConnell of Salt Lake City, Utah, John D. (Caitlin) Puterbaugh of Charlotte, North Carolina, Adam (Heather) Puterbaugh of Columbus, Ohio, and Emily Puterbaugh of Brooklyn, New York; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Avery, Aubrey, Jackson, and Palmer Echelbarger, Abby, Josh, and Grace Puterbaugh, and Mason, Mallory Ledell, and Austin McConnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Jacalyn Sue “Jackie” Echelbarger; and sisters, Irene Wynn, and Anita Vance.

A funeral service for Mrs. McConnell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Scipio Presbyterian Church in Scipio. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow in the Scipio Cemetery.

Memorials may made in honor of Mrs. McConnell through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society or Autumn Trace.
