BROWNSTOWN — After being held scoreless in the first inning, the Hauser softball team didn’t see another “0” on the scoreboard for the rest of the game as the Jets scored in innings 2-through-7 to defeat Brownstown Central 12-6 in the sectional semifinal Wednesday night.

The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but Hauser scored one in the second and two in the third to take a 4-2 lead. Before the third inning ended, the Braves were able to tie it 4-4.

A two-run home run by Hannah Taylor broke the 4-4 tie in the top of the fourth inning, and it helped get the Jets’ offense going.

“Hannah gave us that spark tonight,” Hauser coach Andy Brunner said.

The Jets (22-7) would add one more run in the fourth inning to lead 7-4 off a single from Paige McDaniel, and they never looked back from there. Hauser scored two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to complete the scoring for the game.

“Paige just continues to control the ball, hit her spots and it allows the defense to work,” Brunner said. “She’s doing a fantastic job right now.”

The Jets will take on Milan at 6:30 p.m. today for the sectional championship. Milan defeated South Ripley 12-1 in the first game on Wednesday. The title game is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. at Brownstown Elementary School.

“We’ll have our work cut out for us (tonight),” Brunner said. “I don’t know how many runs we put up (Wednesday) with two outs because they just don’t quit, and that’s what it takes. Just Paige controlling the ball, the bats never quitting and the defense playing smashmouth defense like we do.”
