Marvin Earl White

Marvin Earl White, 85, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Autumn Trace Assisted Living in Seymour. He was born on October 30, 1937, in Seymour, Indiana, the son of Fred and Irene (Mellencamp) White. He had an infant brother who preceded him in death, Irvin John White. He married Carol Jean Weaver on September 2, 1962, and she survives.

In addition to his wife Carol, Marvin is survived by three sons, John (Brenda) White of Indianapolis, Indiana, David (Kimberlee) White of Los Angeles, California, and Mark (Heather) White of Freeport, Florida; three grandsons, Luke (Bree), Levi, and Caleb White; and one sister-in-law, Grace (Randall) Kaufman of Elkhart, Indiana.

Marvin was a 1955 graduate from Cortland High School. After graduating high school, he attended Hanover College where he graduated in 1959 with a music degree and a minor in business. He later earned his master’s degree in music education from Ball State.

Marvin was a retired farmer of thirty years. He was a fifty-year member of the Indiana Farm Bureau. He taught in the West Noble School Corporation for four years and the School City of Elkhart for two years as a band director. He was a cost analyst for Arvin Industries for ten years. He served on the school board for the Seymour Community Schools for twenty years with six of those years as president of the board.

He was a member of Gideons International. He directed the chancel choir of East Columbus United Methodist Church. He was a member of The Point where he served on the church board. He taught Sunday School classes for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for thirty plus years where he raised his family, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served in various capacities.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Voss and Son’s Funeral Home in Seymour, IN with Pastor Rick Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Visitation will be on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Voss and Son’s Funeral Home and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
