Cougars cruise at Crawford County

MARENGO — South Decatur ran out to a 35-0 halftime lead and held on for a 42-21 win at Crawford County on Friday.

The Cougars led 42-0 early in the third quarter before turning to the JV.

“We wanted to make sure our young kids got some action tonight,” South Decatur coach Rodney Martin said.

Corbin Johnson had more than 100 yards rushing and three touchdowns for the Cougars (3-1). Owen Arreola had close to 100 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Bishop also had a rushing touchdown.

“They were really keying on Corbin hard, and we were able to gash them with Owen on counter plays,” Martin said. “Tyler Bishop came up with some big plays to keep some drives going.”

McKinley Shook went 6 for 6 on extra points, and Jaylynn McMurray completed all four of his passes.

“He’s giving us the ability to loosen up the defenses this year with his effectiveness throwing the football,” Martin said.
