Local American Legion officials said they were close to securing a loan of about $30,000 that would allow them to refurbish the Columbus Legion hall, with the hope of reopening before the end of the year.

Volunteers from Columbus North School used coffee cans and dust pans to scoop up hundreds of thousands of pennies tossed into the moat around Chaos at The Commons by area students to be donated to the annual fund drive for United Way of Bartholomew County.

Red and green flashing lights and lots of racket were not UFOs as some area residents reported but instead were created by an air cavalry squadron from Fort Knox, Kentucky, on an annual training mission at Camp Atterbury.
