IUC softball splits pair; baseball falls twice

IU Columbus softball ran its winning streak to seven with a 4-1 River States Conference win against Oakland City Saturday before dropping the second game of the doubleheader 6-5 in nine innings.

Sydney Owens threw a six-hitter in the opener. Gracie Holok went 2 for 3 with two doubles, and Morgan Steineker went 2 for 3.

In the second game, Columbus North graduate Taylor Hadley went 2 for 5 with a double, Morgan Steineker went 2 for 5 and Brown County graduate Taylor Poling had a triple and three RBIs. Erica Henry took the loss.

Meanwhile, the Crimson Pride baseball team dropped an RSC doubleheader 12-6 and 7-2 at Brescia (Kentucky).

Peyton Blinn went 3 for 4 with a double, Lucas Slager went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs, Aidan Hapner went 2 for 4 with two doubles and Wyatt Sutton went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in the opener. Starter Nathan Van Bibber took the loss.

Slager went 2 for 4 with a double in the second game. Starter Jackson Gilcrest took the loss.

The baseball team (8-23, 2-10) will host Wright State Lake Campus at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ceraland. The softball squad (8-12, 6-6) will play a doubleheader Friday at Ohio Christian.
