Bull Dogs rally past Trojans in opener

ST. LEON — Columbus North opened its softball season Monday with an 8-7 win at East Central.

Kelsey Lovelace capped a three-run fifth with a sacrifice fly, and Bailee Scruggs shut out the Trojans over the final three innings to preserve the win.

Starting pitcher Payton Morris went 2 for 4 with four RBIs to lead the Bull Dogs’ 11-hit attack. Lovelace went 2 for 3, and Lily Retz went 2 for 4. Miley McClellan smacked a triple, and Scruggs had a double.

North will play its home and Conference Indiana opener at noon Saturday against Terre Haute South.
