Anita Valerie Shatto

COLUMBUS

Anita Valerie Shatto, age 88 passed away at her beloved home in Columbus, IN on April 5,2024 after a short battle with cancer.

Anita was born August 26, 1935 to Joseph Dufresne & Blanche Lavall’ee Dufresne in Haverhill, MA. Her childhood home was filled with children, love, & laughter. She graduated from Haverhill High School in 1953. After graduation, Anita walked each day from her home to work in a local dress shop.

Anita met the love of her life, Raymond L Shatto, when her best friend & younger sister, Judith, set them up on a blind date. Raymond & Anita were married on 12/28/58 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Haverhill, MA. Anita moved to Columbus, Indiana with Raymond & together they started their life together. Anita was adamant that she was a Yankee though, NOT a Hoosier even after living in Indiana for 65 years!

Anita’s life was centered on her family. She was a lifelong homemaker, wife, mother of 5, grandmother of 10, & great grandmother of 14. Her children & grandchildren were her whole world. She was proud of each & every one. Her family will hold dear the many stories we can share about our funny, loving, & perfectly coiffed wife, mother, & grandmother.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Blanche Dufresne, brothers Clement & Robert Dufresne, sisters Fern Duchemin, Evelyn Croll, & Judith Davis, and her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Arthur & Mamie Shatto.

The family takes comfort in knowing that her beloved sister, Judith, will be waiting to welcome Anita into heaven.

Anita is survived by Raymond L Shatto, her loving husband of 65 years; her brother Norman Durfesne;

her children, Debra (Shatto) Armuth & husband Kent Armuth, Richard Shatto, Janine (Shatto) Anderson & husband Chuck Anderson, Gregory Shatto & wife Kelly Shatto, and Jason Shatto; grandchildren, Chad Armuth, Christopher Armuth, Cole Armuth, Connor Armuth, Ryan Shatto, Sarah Kramp, Nichole Wilson, Noah Shatto, Paige Shatto, & Coen Shatto; and 14 Great Grandchildren.

Anita was a member of St Bartholomew Catholic Church, Columbus, IN. A memorial mass will be held there on Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. with Father Chris Wadleton as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may gather for visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
