IUC baseball takes season-ending loss; softball drops DH

IU Columbus baseball saw its season come to an end Saturday with a 14-4 loss at West Virginia Tech in the opening round of the River States Conference Tournament.

The Crimson Pride (10-42) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a three-run homer by Jared Ross, but WVU Tech answered with three in the bottom of the first and went on to win in eight innings.

Wyatt Sutton went 3 for 4 for IUC, which managed five hits. Gavin Haltom, the second of five pitchers, took the loss.

WVU Tech won the series 2-0, having beaten the Crimson Pride 10-4 in Friday’s series opener.

Meanwhile, the IUC softball team fell 3-2 and 11-0 in an RSC doubleheader at Oakland City on Saturday. Izzy Johnson went 3 for 3, and Sydney Owens and Erica Henry combined on a five-hitter in the opener.

Morgan Steineker had the lone hit for the Crimson Pride in the second game. Starting pitcher Erica Henry took the loss.

IUC (11-27, 9-21) wraps up the regular season with a doubleheader Sunday at Brescia.
