Columbus North High School students performed popular songs from the 1950s to the 1990s during “American Pie: The Magical History Tour” at Judson Erne Auditorium on Friday.

Each performer dressed in period attire for the songs they performed, which ranged from Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” to Weezer’s “Buddy Holly.”

Retired social studies teacher Ed Niespodziani started the concert in 1985 as a classroom experiment to get students more interested in American history, and it has continued to be a crowd favorite since then.

Longtime show coordinator and musician Jerry Mihay expressed his amazement at the wide range of talent from the mostly show choir and drama students, who earned thundering applause from the crowd of over 600 people.
