Several winners emerge from go-kart racing

Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing held it’s next-to-last racing program of the season on Oct. 6 at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds track.

James Frazee of Columbus led the way in the vintage class by winning the main event. Other winners for the night were Jeff Purdue of Marietta (410 class), Sam Alloway of Cincinnati ((RWB class), Jentry Cash of Brownstown (rookie class), Braden Patterson of Illinois (JR2 class) and Buddy Wilson from Paris, Illinois, swept the 380 clone, 340 clone and flat head class.

A total of 95 racers competed in the racing activities. The final event of the season for Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing will be held on Oct. 20.

Twin Cities concludes season

Twin Cities Raceway in Vernon concluded its 2018 racing season on Oct. 6. Mark Barber of North Vernon clinched the crate late model title outright as he won the feature event to wrap up the championship points.

Several winners at Brownstown

Brownstown Speedway held its’s next-to-last weekend of racing on Oct. 6. Mike Fields of Scottsburg picked up his fourth Brandeis super stock special of the year in six attempts.

Aubrey Eagan of Bedford finished second, followed by Jason Hehman of Brownstown, Colton Sullivan of Columbus and Josh Divine from Loogootee. With his third-place finish, Hehman clinched his first Brownstown Speedway track championship.

In the Indiana Pro late model division, Marty O’Neal of Spencer continues to be the hottest driver in the division as he won for the sixth-time this season at Brownstown. For O’Neal and car owner Larry Hartwell of North Vernon, it was their 14th overall feature win of the season.

Jeremy Hines of Seymour ran second to O’Neal in the main event, with Shelby Miles of Bloomington, Tyler Neal of Paragon and Tyler Cain of Seymour completing the top five. Cain clinched his first Indiana Pro track title at Brownstown with his fifth-place run.

In the open wheel modified feature, it was Matt Boknecht of Seymour not only winning the feature race, but in doing so, clinched his eighth career track title at Brownstown. Jordan Wever of Bloomington finished in the runner-up spot to Boknecht with Earl Plessinger of Lexington, Jeremy Owens of North Vernon and Tim Rivers of Salem trailing.

Rick Gumm of Tampico remained unbeatable as he roared to his ninth consecutive pure stock feature win. Mickey Hines of Scipio, Derek Clegg of Nabb, Trevor Cranmer of Jeffersonville and Jeremey Huebner of Loogootee completed the top-five drivers.

Bill Grant of Clarksville completed a superb season for himself by winning his fourth hornet feature of the season which clinched his first Brownstown track championship. Trailing Grant across the finish line were Buzzy Jurek of Georgetown, Shannon Walp of Hayden, Josh Hallett of Brownstown and Benjamin Richardson of Bloomington.

Brownstown will conclude its racing season tonight and Sunday with the Annual Fun Fest. On the docket tonight will be the crate late model feature, plus a complete show for the super late models. Also racing tonight will be the B-mains and features for the pure stocks, open wheel modifieds, super stocks, hornets, and TQ midgets. Also running tonight will be a ladies powder puff race.

Nobbe wins at Florence

Dustin Nobbe of Batesville won his first career super late model feature on Oct. 6 at Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. Steve Casebolt of Richmond chased Nobbe across the finish line, with Robby Hensley, Trevor Landrum and Jesse Lay rounding out the top five.

Hensley captured the 2018 late model track title by finishing in third in the final rundown. Jimmy Lennex Jr. won the open wheel modified main event over Adam Stricker, J.T. Ayers, Dylan Woodling and Cory Skipton.

Florence will open its final event of the 2018 season on Oct. 27 with the Annual Fall 50 paying $5,000 to win for super late models. For more info, visit florencespeedway.com.

Fisher wins track title again

Columbus native Derek Fisher captured his second consecutive late model track championship at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Kentucky, when the track concluded its 2018 race schedule.

Reutzel wins All-Star crown

With last weekend’s event scheduled for Kokomo Speedway on Oct. 6 getting washed out, Aaron Reutzel was crowned the 2018 champion of Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series. Carson Macedo finished second in points, with Chad Kemenah placing third. Paul McMahon and Dave Blaney rounded out the top five in points.

The rest of the top 10 were Cale Conley, Brandon Spithaler, Tyler Esh, Jac Haudenschild and Parker Price-Miller.

USAC rained out last weekend

The AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series saw its two scheduled events last weekend cancelled due to mother nature. The events slated for Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, and at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas were rained out and will not be rescheduled.

UMRA finale tonight

The UMRA King of the TQ Midgets will wrap up its season tonight with an appearance at the Brownstown Speedway during the track’s annual Fun Fest events. For the latest info, visit brownstownspeedway.com.

World 100 tonight

The World 100 for late models will be contested tonight at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The event originally scheduled for last month was rained out in September.

The event hailed as the most prestigious in dirt late model racing will pay $51,000 to win. The event will be broadcast live on pay-per-view at dirtondirt.com and eldoraspeedway.com.

Covey gets win at Boswell

Mason Covey won his first career feature in the crate late model division on Sept. 29 at Daugherty Speedway in Boswell. Covey’s car is sponsored by Brucebilt Performance, B&H Electric, Bob Poynter Dealerships, On the Rox Bar, Diamond Auto Sales, Celery Signs, Erwin Customs, Mahoney Consulting and Underwood Salvage.
