East downs Roncalli

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East scored three times in the third and three more in the fourth Wednesday to pull away for a 7-2 win at Roncalli.

Will Rieckers went 2 for 3 with a double for the Olympians (7-10-1), who pounded out six hits. Alex McComb had two RBIs.

East’s Will Boyer, Parker Harris and Harry Major combined on a five-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Dragons blank Panthers

SELLERSBURG — Silver Creek scored a run in the first and two in the third to post a 3-0 win against Jennings County.

Keegan Manowitz went 2 for 3 for the Panthers (15-7). Jacob Vogel threw a seven-hitter.

Spartans edge Lancers

EDINBURGH — Southwestern (Shelby) scored two runs in the top of the seventh to pull out a 6-5 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Edinburgh.

Jarrett Turner went 3 for 4, and Nick Detling went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Lancers (3-11, 1-8), who outhit the Spartans 8-5. Gabe Bennett threw a five-hitter.

Edinburgh was coming off a 2-1 MHC win at Southwestern on Tuesday. Travis Jones threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and Riley Palmeter had a double and two RBIs.

Brown County falls

GREENCASTLE — Brown County came out on the short end of a 13-3 Western Indiana Conference decision at South Putnam.

The Eagles (1-10, 0-7) were limited to six hits.

BOYS GOLF

Bull Dogs take second

FRANKLIN — Luke Schneider won medalist honors with a 35, but top-ranked Center Grove slipped past Columbus North 150-154 in a tri match at The Legends. Franklin finished third with a 164.

Tyler Wilks and John Merritt each shot 39 for the Bull Dogs. Willy Davis and Jack Schiavello each added 41s.

Eagles top Bluejackets

NASHVILLE — Cooper VanNess won medalist honors with a 44 to lead Brown County to a 200-247 win against Mitchell at Salt Creek.

Clay Austin carded a 45 for the Eagles. Bradley Arndt added a 55, Kody Walsh shot 56, Wesley Arndt had a 57 and Liam Cassiday shot 59, Jordan Burnett had a 62 and Dylan Taylor finished with a 67.

ST. LEON — East Central won all five matches in straight sets in handing Columbus East a 5-0 defeat.

Katie Hong fell to Heidi Kane at No. 1 singles, and Shruthika Kumar lost to Peyton Dies at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-1 scores for the Olympians (1-10). Ruth Federle fell to Daphne Smets 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

East’s Cathrine Millwood and Katey Rieckers lost to Michelle Banta and Elizabeth Kirchgessner 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Ashlynn Weddle and Betsy Hoene fell to Avery Danfeis and Kelsey Scholl 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles nip Tiger Cubs

NASHVILLE — Brown County won at No. 1 singles and claimed both doubles matches to pull out a 3-2 WIC victory against Greencastle.

Anna Stogsdill beat Maddie Landry 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (9-4). Katie Tipton and Mary Rygiel topped Bella Merritt and Liberty Morris 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Abie Bowman and Julia Burt defeated Savannah Buck and Addie Fowler 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Brown County’s Anna Tipton fell to Caroline Gooch 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Mattie Satter lost to Sophie Riggle 7-6 (5), 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

Tigers sweep Lancers

EDINBURGH — Triton Central won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win at Edinburgh.

Bethany Burton fell to Julia Sanders def. 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Jessica Walsh lost to Emma Hutchinson 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles and Peyton Bryant fell to Lelia Chougule 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (5-5).

Edinburgh’s Alyssa Funkhouser and Jillian Turner lost to Alyssa Wheatley and Kelsey McGuire 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Zoey Sida and Gracie Myers fell to Olivia Martin and Sarah Williams 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2 doubles.

BC takes close loss

GREENCASTLE — Brown County took the lead with a run in the first, but South Putnam tied it in the third and pushed across the go-ahead run in the sixth to pull out a 2-1 WIC victory.

Kailey Buccos had the lone hit for Brown County (1-11, 1-6).
