Vernie A. Shehan

COLUMBUS

Vernie A. Shehan, 85, passed away on June 30, 2022 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Vernie was born on July 17, 1936 to Bulie and Gladys (Cohee) Perdue and raised by Bulie and her step-mother Iva Meltzer. She married James Shehan on March 25, 1955.

She is survived by her sons, Jim (Bonnie) Shehan of Edinburgh, Marc Shehan (and the Late Carol) of Nauvoo, Alabama, Terry (Susan Knox) Shehan of Taylorsville, Gary (Cathy) Shehan of Columbus, and Dave (Christina) Shehan of Columbus; and her brother, Jerry Perdue. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Her full time job was raising her 5 boys by herself since 1966. She loved family gatherings and working in her flower garden. She had an uncanny ability of remembering every single family member’s birthday.

Vernie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; stepmother; daughter, Theresa; grandson, Brandon Shehan; sisters, Jean Cable, Martha Poer, Marie Allman; and her brothers, Bill Perdue, Kenny Perdue, and Georgie Perdue.

A funeral service for Vernie will be held Tuesday, July 5 at 1 p.m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel with Pastor Larry Tingle officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. to the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
