COLUMBUS
Walter L. Roberts, 67, of Columbus, passed from this life at 10:36 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Columbus Regional Hospital after a long battle with COVID, that resulted in numerous medical issues.
Mr. Roberts was born October 24, 1954, in Welch, West Virginia, the son of Oscar and Maybelle Lester Roberts.
He married Cindy J. Smith December 17, 1977.
Walter enjoyed making walking sticks, working on cars, gardening and spending time with his dogs.
He had a genuine love for his family. His protective nature made his family feel safe when he was anywhere around.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 45 years; sisters, Dennetta (Chuck) Watts, Elizabeth Jones and Diane Steigerwalt all of Columbus; mother-in-law, Janet Smith of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Connie (Ron) Colvin and Bev Lyle both of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorretta Spurgeon, brother, James Roberts, father-in-law, Jack Smith and a sister-in-law, Teresa Smith.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Charlie Wright officiating.
Family and friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and 10:00 a.m. to time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at New Bellsville Cemetery in Brown County.
