Brown reaches milestone

NEW ALBANY — Saige Stahl scored a career-high 37 points and Danny Brown picked up his 300th win as Columbus East coach (358th overall) Saturday in an 80-55 win at New Albany.

The Olympians (7-11, 1-4) jumped out to a 43-24 halftime lead and went on to post their first Hoosier Hills Conference victory of the season.

Stahl also led East with nine rebounds and five steals. Leah Bachmann added 10 points and five assists, Allison Craig scored 10 points and Maeleigh Roberts had nine points.

Columbus Christian wins

JONESBORO — Columbus Christian jumped out to a 26-18 halftime lead and held on for a 50-44 win at King’s Academy.

Sarah Lorimor led the Crusaders (12-4) with 25 points. Madi Blair scored 11, and Emma Murray added nine.

Jets fall to Batesville

BATESVILLE — Hauser fell behind 16-9 after one quarter, and their rally came up just short in a 52-48 loss at Batesville.

Madelyn Poe led the Jets (9-7) with 20 points. Adrianna Musillami scored 12, Bella Kilps had seven and Kyliegh Parrott added seven.

Panthers down Braves

BROWNSTOWN — Jennings County trailed 10-9 after one quarter before rallying for a 47-38 win at Brownstown Central.

Juliann Woodard led the Panthers (12-5) with 19 points. Megan Vogel scored 12, and Mollie Ernstes added nine.

Jackets top Lancers

MORRISTOWN — Edinburgh was held to nine points over the first three quarters in a 37-16 Mid-Hoosier Conference loss at Morristown.

Kenna Streeval led the Lancers (6-13, 0-2) with five points.

WRESTLING

Bull Dogs finish second

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North finished second in the Conference Indiana Tournament. Terre Haute South won with 282 points to 246 for the Bull Dogs and 222 for Bloomington South.

The Bull Dogs had two conference champions — Justice Thornton (132 pounds) and Jason Shuey (138). Asher Ratliff (145), Liam Phillips (160), Keller DeSpain (170), Evan Saevre (182) and Cody Thurnall (285) all finished second.

Also for North, Nolan Riley (106), Liam Curfman (113), Jose Ramirez (195) and Bryce Luttrell (220) all placed third. Bryce Hawkins (126) and Josiah Green (152) each took fourth.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Olympians take fourth

SEYMOUR — Columbus East finished fourth in the Hoosier Hills Conference meet. Floyd Central won with 383 points to 198 for Jeffersonville, 184 for Seymour and 140 for the Olympians.

Gabbie Meier won the diving competition (407.60) to lead East. Cassidy Furnish in the 500-yard freestyle (5 minutes, 50.366 seconds, Josie Havenaar in the 100 backstroke (1:08.58) and Ali Trueblood in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.99) all finished sixth. The Olympians were fifth in the 200 medley (2:08.18) and 200 freestyle (1:56.31) relays.

Jennings County finished sixth with 129 points, one behind fifth-place New Albany. Avery Witt won the 100 backstroke (1:03.48) and finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:05.37), and Tatum Brown placed fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:38.02). Witt, Brown, Alyssa Monnin and Hannah Webster took third in the 200 medley relay (2:02.51); and Brown, Monnin, Ponsler and Witt were third in the 400 freestyle relay (4:05.80).

East falls to Seymour

SEYMOUR — Columbus East went 11 for 12 from the free-throw line, but Seymour claimed a 44-32 HHC win.

Ben Sylva led the Olympians (1-10, 0-2) with 11 points. Julius Dailey added nine.

Crusaders go 2-1

MEDORA — Columbus Christian went 2-1 to finish third in the Southern Roads Conference Tournament. The Crusaders beat Cannelton 67-51, fell to Bloomington Lighthouse 94-30 and bounced back to edge Christian Academy of Madison 55-52 in the third-place game.

Peyton Walden led Columbus Christian with 18 points against Cannelton. Noah Edwards scored 15, Brayden Howe had 10, Jacob Bell added nine and Cam Pritchard chipped in eight.

Jordan Burton and Edwards each scored nine points against Lighthouse, which led only 16-11 after one quarter.

Burton and Pritchard each scored 14 points to lead the Crusaders (10-11) against Christian Academy of Madison. Edwards had 11, and Walden added eight.

Panthers stop Stars

BEDFORD — Jennings County led only 21-19 at halftime before pulling away for a 51-40 HHC win at Bedford North Lawrence.

Owen Law led the Panthers (13-1, 2-0) with 15 points. Keegan Manowitz scored 12 points, and Parker Elmore added seven points and seven rebounds.

Cougars top Spartans in OT

SHELBYVILLE — South Decatur outscored Southwestern (Shelby) 9-5 in overtime to pull out a 64-60 MHC victory.

Jacob Scruggs led the Cougars (8-5, 3-1) with 28 points. Dale Peters scored 16, and Dorian Hacker added nine.
