Design camp open to sixth to 10th graders
A first-ever Exhibit Columbus and Foundation for Youth Design Camp for students in grades six through 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 26-30 still has openings — and scholarship help for those needing it to cover the $175-per-student cost.
Three injured in head-on collision
Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies and Columbus firefighters were sent to the scene of a head-on collision involving two vehicles in the 8200 block of East 25th Street near Bonnell Road, reported at about 11:30 a.m. Friday.
2008 flood subject of panel discussion
The Sierra Club Winding Waters Group has organized a free, panel discussion linked to the 15th anniversary of the flood that will unfold from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Indiana Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. in downtown Columbus. Panelists will include Jeff Bergman, City Planning Department director; the Rev. Lanny Lawler, chair of the Bartholomew County Long Term Flood Recovery Team; a representative from Columbus Regional Heath; and Columbus resident Eric Riddle, author of “Watershed: Service in the Wake of Disaster” serving as moderator.
Legal Aid to offer phone clinic
Legal Aid is holding a free Legal Aid Phone Clinic for residents of their eight-county district on June 13. The district includes Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Rush, and Shelby counties. The phone clinic will be conducted from 3 to 5:30 p.m. though registration is required between noon to 2 p.m.
Shake sales benefit Ronald McDonald House
McDonald’s recently announced that 25 cents from every Shamrock Shake sale this spring was donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) across Indiana. The total amount raised was close to $84,000.
Veterans in need can get back-to-school aid
Veterans with school-age children who are facing financial hardship can receive up to $500 in aid per dependent child to help defray back-to-school costs.
Church dedicates memorial to war veterans
Nearly 100 people attended a dedication ceremony Sunday, May 28, for a memorial to members of St. John’s Lutheran Church White Creek who served in the armed forces in conflicts from World War I through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
