Luke R. Poindexter

COLUMBUS

Luke Ronald Poindexter, 22, of Columbus, passed from this life unexpectedly Sunday, October 24, 2021, in Indianapolis.

Luke was born October 5, 1999, in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of Kelley and Kristina Sterner Poindexter.

Luke was a student at Ivy Tech Community College and attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Luke was a man of few words but when he hugged you, you knew that he loved you more than words could ever say. Luke graduated from Columbus East high school in 2018, where he was a 3 sport athlete. He lettered in football, basketball, and track. He also participated on the Columbus East bass fishing team. Luke was a full time student at Ivy Tech and was pursuing a degree in industrial technology and welding. This past summer he made the dean’s list for his program. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing with his father and playing flag football with his friends. Luke enjoyed spending time with his partner Alexia, and they are expecting a son in December. Luke was looking forward to raising his son and becoming a great dad. Luke was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his parents, Kelley and Kristina Poindexter of Columbus; sister, Hannah Poindexter of Columbus; grandparents, Ronald and Beverly Poindexter of Columbus and Robert and Mary Ann Berlier of Greenwood; his companion, Alexia Estep and their baby boy to arrive soon; aunts and uncles, Mark and Lisa Sterner and Kevin and Kristy Ferguson; cousins, Kobe and Kaleb Sterner and Justin (Emily), Josh (Joy), Jordan (Chrystal), Logan (Kalynne) and Paige Ferguson.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas Sterner.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor John Cordrey officiating.

Family and friends may call from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and 10:00 a.m. to time of service Monday at the church.

Luke will be laid to rest at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the education fund being set up for his son through the funeral home.
