COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Gail A. Whitis, 75, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 4:12 p.m. at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Gail was born on March 30, 1947, in Columbus, the daughter of Albert M. and Frieda A. Waggoner Hill. She was a graduate of Columbus High School in 1965. On January 31, 1969, she married Dewey A. Whitis.
She was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She particularly liked growing flowers. Gail was very interested in astronomy and liked to spend hours gazing at the stars. Gail also especially liked animals and going to softball games. She loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren and traveling with them to Dewey’s softball tournaments.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dewey A. Whitis of Columbus; daughter, Melissa (Lee) Cavanagh of London, United Kingdom; step-son, Randy (Kathy) Whitis of Columbus; and grandsons, Gunnar Thompson, Derrex Whitis, and Kyle Whitis all of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Frieda Hill and her daughter, Kimberly Kay Whitis.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. till time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Gail will be laid to rest next to her daughter in Section 85 West in the Garland Brook Cemetery.
