Hauser boys defend MIC title

WALDRON — The Hauser boys cross-country team defended its Mid-Hoosier Conference championship on Saturday.

The Jets scored 30 points to 38 for runner-up and host Waldron. South Decatur finished third with 88.

Colin Kistler and Nolan Dailey led Hauser with second- and third-place finishes in 17 minutes, 21.15 seconds and 17:21.22 for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Koleson Gerentz took fifth in 18:24.64, while Mason Moore was 10th (18:49.05), Kase Meister 12th (19:08.99), Braydon McFarland 14th (19:13.31) and Grady Niccum 16th (19:23.51).

Nicholas Hunter finished seventh in 18:31.08 to lead South Decatur. Donovan Hale took 13th in 19:12.89, while Conner Newby was 20th (19:46.16), Logan Wilkinson 27th (20:26.51), Keaton Troutman 33rd (22:09.32), Bob Tryon 36th (24:00.59) and Josh Chastain 37th (24:07.83).

Edinburgh’s lone boys runner, Ethan Campbell, finished 41st in 27:53.52.

On the girls side, South Decatur finished third with 53 points. Waldron won with 32 to 40 for North Decatur.

Clair Schoettmer led the Cougars with a seventh-place finish in 24:39.57. Brayley Sundal took 11th in 25:56.13, while Bri Benefiel was 13th (26:13.23), Mary Schwering 15th (26:53.36), Brooklyn Ortman 21st (27:32.07) and Andrea Brogan 22nd (27:51.29).

Hauser and Edinburgh each had one girl competing. The Jets’ Addison Dailey finished 16th in 27:01.82, and the Lancers’ Shyleigh Goble was 25th in 20:45.87.
