Nico Gotoh // Columbus North senior soccer player

Gotoh scored two goals Saturday to help lead the Bull Dogs to a 4-2 win against Roncalli in the North Sectional final. He also helped North to a 7-1 first-round victory against Greenwood and a 2-1 semifinal win against Franklin.

His performance last week: “Not starting obviously was something I was not very proud of, but as soon as I got subbed on, I really wanted to make an impact, and that was the emphasis, so I thought I made an impact, and it got us the win.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I’ll eat a banana, drink some Gatorade and eat some rice.”

Favorite drink: “Water or Pedialyte”

Favorite food: “Sushi”

Favorite class: “U.S. Government”

Favorite sports team: “AC Milan”

Favorite athlete: “(Pro soccer player) Kylian Mbappe”

Role model: “My parents (Shoko and Marc Gotoh)”

Best advice: “Do the little things because they’ll pay off in the end.”

Athletics goal: “I want to play collegiate soccer, and then hopefully, I can go professional.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I want to go to Italy because the culture is amazing, and the food is amazing. Just the country itself is amazing.”

Reese Edwards // Columbus North junior volleyball player

Reese Edwards

Edwards recorded 22 assists and 10 digs in a three-set win against Bloomington South and led the Bull Dogs with 19 assists and 12 digs in a three-set loss to Franklin and 27 assists and two aces in a three-set loss to Terre Haute South.

Her performance last week: “I think I did pretty well running the offense.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I make sure to drink lots of water during the day. I stretch that morning, and I stretch before the game and I just try to come in with a good mindset.”

Favorite drink: “I drink mostly water because I’m not a big fan of soda.”

Favorite food: “I love my mom’s Chicken Puff Ring.”

Favorite class: “AP Statistics”

Favorite sports team: “Nebraska volleyball”

Favorite athlete: “(Nebraska volleyball player) Lexi Rodridguez”

Role model: “My mom (Suzie McKenna).”

Best advice: “My mom usually says, ‘Pain happens, but suffering is optional.’’

Athletics goal: “Just have fun when I play and win sectional.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably somewhere like Greece or Paris, just because of the architecture, and it’s a very cool place to go.”
