James William Young, 21-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Young of North Vernon, was a little apprehensive about his visit with Santa Claus during an extnesion homemakers holiday open house in 1973.

A parking consultant hired by the city proposed paid parking meters on much of Washington Street and several side streets priced at a level to drive out downtown employees but low enough to invite in customers who wanted to visit downtown businesses.
