Columbus East and Columbus North high schools both had a chance to win conference boys basketball titles for the first time since Columbus High School split into two schools. East was set to battle Jeffersonville for the Hoosier Hills Conference title, and North had already won its first Conference Indiana title.

1999

Lakota storyteller Kevin Locke used hoop dance to tell a story and educate BCSC third-graders about the Lakota people. Dance and the cedar flute were the traditional tools of the Lakota people’s oral history that Locke used in his education.

1974

Four Columbus physicians, Bryan E. Nelson, Kenneth D. Schneider, Benjamin A. Ranck and Harold W. Richmond, were named diplomates of the American Board of Family Practice after passing a certification exam offered by the organization. The written exam lasted two days and tested their knowledge in the areas of internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry and community medicine.
