Hope’s town square was alive with history as reenactors portraying Civil War soldiers and President Abraham Lincoln united for the fourth annual Hope Civil War Days. Volunteers, representing Maj. Gen. Lew Wallace’s 11th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, gave visitors a glimpse into the life of a Civil War soldier.

1999

Artwork by Columbus North High School art student Travis Combest was featured in the 1999 Helen Keller National Art Show at the International Convention of the Council for Exceptional Children. The art show presented work by visually impaired, blind and deaf children across the country.

1974

The sixth annual citywide cleanup, Operation Big Broom, took place from Central Avenue east and west to the city limits. The cleanup was cosponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Environmental Council and Metropolitan Exchange Club.
